Cholistan Desert Safari

An exciting trip where each day opens the flap to a new corridor of soft adventure, thriving archeological sites, architecture, rich culture, and landscape, in winter Southern Pakistan offers serene atmosphere to explore the treasures of the land of five rivers, Punjab. Cholistan desert stretches upon an area of 26,300 square kilometers. The meaning of Cholistan is a Land of the Desert as the word “CHOL” has been derived from Turkish language which means desert.

The life of Cholistan people is somewhat nomadic or semi-nomadic, they always move from one place to another, and their stay is prolonged if they find water and pastures in abundance for their animals. We start enjoying the monuments of Islamic Sufis in Multan. Once we feast our eyes with the city of Sufis, the silky smooth waves of the Indus River greet us.

We make our way to the majestic Cholistan Desert, “The Land of Lost River”, where the festive nomads welcome us. The culture of Cholistan desert is so different and beautiful that it stands out completely. Men wear bright-colored turbans and the women wear bright-colored clothes with very discreet embroidery which is basically the specialty of this area. Ride the ship of desert through the wilderness of Cholistan desert to Derawar, the massive Fort standing in the middle of nowhere. It is a major tourist attraction for the foreigners. Earlier it was the residence of the Nawab of Bahawalpur and there are still remains of Nawab’s quarters in the fort.

Cholistan desert is a continuation of Thar Desert in Sindh province and Rajistan desert in India. Our adventurous trip starts in the Islamabad and ends in Lahore, an ancient city that has been capital and administrative town for many dynasties who have ruled the region. Lahore is also considered to be the cultural capital of Pakistan because of its rich cultural heritage.
