K-2 – 8616m (61 days)

In the opinion of the legendary mountaineer Reinhold Messner, K-2 is the most impressive but the most difficult peak in the world. It is perhaps for this reason that the locals call it Chogori, ‘the king of mountains’. K2 has variously been described as the “awesome”, “killer”, “savage” and “the mountain of mountaineers”. Its lower face is rocky up to 6,000 meters, beyond which it becomes a vertical ocean of snow.

K-2 majestically stands on the Pakistan-China border ruling the mighty Karakoram. The traditional route to its base camp goes through Baltoro Glacier. The height of the peak is 8,616 meters/28,267 feet according to the survey done by Italian geologists in 2004.

The peak has been climbed by over three hundred & fifty climbers through different routes. The most common route is Abruzzi Ridge through which the first successful Italian expedition attempted the peak and two climbers; Mr. Lino Lacedelli and Mr. Achille Compagnoni made history by reaching the summit on August 31, 1954.

We used the services of ADVENTURE TOURS PAKISTAN (ATP) for our tour from Lahore to Gilgit-Baltistan and Hunza Valley in July 2022. We were a group of 8 people. Right from the beginning, during the preparation period, Naiknam, the owner/manager of the company, and Abida were very prompt with our queries, very precise in preparing the documents and provided accurate and useful information. Pakistan may be a difficult country for organising activities and that is why I really appreciate the efforts, professionalism and accuracy of ADVENTURE TOURS PAKISTAN team. For ourselves, everything was professionally organised. Our tour guide Amir was very professional. He managed to arrange an alternative transport due to the closure of KKH, was always ready to help or give advice. His knowledge of the places is amazing, which we really appreciated. We liked the hotels selected by ADVENTURE TOURS PAKISTAN - good quality and nice staff. The tour was challenging for our travellers, but thanks to the professionalism of ADVENTURE TOURS PAKISTAN it became a very good and interesting adventure without any logistical or other problems. We had a great experience with ATP. I did two trips back-to-back with family (10 members) and then onwards on my own for a two-week trip to Northern areas of Pakistan. Areas covered. Naran, Gilgit, Hunza, Astore, Domail, Desosai, Skardu, Gupis, Phander, Shandur, Chitral, and Kailash.
Excellent service and very responsive. Everyone in the family very happy with their service. The driver was always on time as we'd leave very early at 7 am daily. For the family trip we stayed at 7 different places in 10 days. We hired a grand cabin van and then also jeeps (prados) where the van couldn't go. Both were great. One day our van driver was not well, we called an said to have a back-up plan and they agreed to it. We didn't need it but was good to know that they were responsive.
The van was very comfortable and so was the Prado jeep.
